The categories to be awarded are: Distinguished Alumni and Emerging Leader.

The Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award, established in 1994, recognizes graduates in each college or division who have distinguished themselves in such a way as to reflect honor of the University and the UWA Alumni Association.

The criteria for Distinguished Alumni are:
- 10+ years since graduating from UWA
- Notable success or leadership in their profession
- Active support of UWA through involvement, mentorship, advocacy, or giving
- Meaningful service or impact within their community
- Exemplifies integrity, professionalism, and the spirit of UWA
The Emerging Leaders Award, established in 2012, recognizes graduates in each college or division who show promise for success and leadership in the same manner.

The criteria for the Emerging Leader are:
- Within 5–10 years of graduating from UWA
- Strong early-career achievements or rapid professional growth
- Continued engagement with UWA through alumni activities or service
- Demonstrated leadership or service within their community
- Serves as a positive role model and representative of UWA values
