A grant awarded to UWA by the National Science Foundation will allow up to 10 students per year the opportunity to participate in a scholarship and mentoring program designed to help them achieve their academic and career goals.
Applicant’s eligibility:
- Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. National or U.S. Permanent Resident.
- Will be enrolled full-time (12 or more credits) at UWA.
- Major in one of the biological and environmental sciences offerings
- Demonstrate academic potential or ability (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0). *
- Standardized test scores, ACT or SAT (22 minimum or 1000 minimum, respectively).*
- Demonstrate financial need, defined for undergraduate students by the U.S. Department of Education guidelines for need-based federal financial aid.
- Scholarship renewal is based on meeting the above requirements and achieving a minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Nursing students are not eligible
*Will consider slightly lower scores
Successful applicants will receive:
- $8,500 scholarship assistance per student per academic year (maximum of 4 years).
- Academic advising and assistance.
- Professional development activities.
- Career services and counseling.
- Peer mentoring.
- Faculty mentoring.
To retain the UWA BOSS II scholarship for the maximum of four (4) years, recipients must:
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
- Maintain full-time status at UWA .
- Demonstrate satisfactory progress towards a degree in biological and environmental sciences.
- Participate in all required events in the program (including, but not limited to, regular group meetings and mentor meetings; typically, there are only 6 – 7 meetings per semester).
- Regularly check and respond to scholarship program-related communications.
